Death by Design
The victim trusted the wrong person. The wrong smile. The wrong kindness. Now, as the investigators trace the final hours leading up to that last sip, every gesture becomes suspicious, every act of love feels rehearsed. Someone pinned this. Someone planned this. And someone is still close enough to pour another glass. Because the dead don’t speak- but poison always leave a story behind.
“Okay, I can explain.”
“Great,”
because the police, the coroner and my very dead brother would love an explanation!
“I didn’t poisoned him.”
“You were the last person seen with him.”
“That doesn’t mean anything. We talked. We argued. That’s it.”
“About what?”
“…About the will.”
“Of course it was the will.”
“He changed it last week,”
left everything to charity.
“And you were furious.”
“I was disappointed. There’s a difference.”
“There’s also arsenic in his bloodstream.”
“I didn’t put it there.”
“Funny thing,”
The poison was in his tea.
oh God- you killed my brother!
“He always drank tea.”
For God’s sake- I didn’t kill my husband!
I didn’t kill your brother. The man I loved.
The Father of my children!
I didn’t kill anyone!
“And you always made his tea.”
“Because he liked it a certain way.”
Two sugars. No milk.
You know that.
“So you admit you made the tea?”
“Yes.”
But I didn’t poison it.
“Then who did?”
“I don’t know.”
“Did you drink any of it?”
“What?”
“The tea. Did you have any?”
“…Yes.”
“And you’re still alive.”
“Obviously.”
“Then the poison wasn’t added when you made it.”
“Thank you.”
“But,”
someone added it later.
“Later… when?”
“When you went upstairs, to bathe the kids.”
“Oh my God…”
You were there!
Y-you killed Jake, didn’t you?
“W-what?”
“I remember him telling me before that you’ve always been jealous of Jake.”
You never stop saying that he was the achiver.
The golden child, The favourite.
“That’s ridiculous.”
I was there, and so was she.
“…The on-call nurse.”
“She had access.”
The knowledge.
And a reason.

Okay but this was actually so good?? The tension was insane and the chat format made it feel like I was reading a live interrogation. I kept flipping back and forth trying to figure out who was lying. Lowkey obsessed, crime stories like this are my weakness.

Thank you so much for your feedback. I hope you’ll continue to support my future works as well. ❤️

The dialogue was sharp and tense. I like how the clues were revealed little by little, it kept me guessing until the end. The chat format worked well for the interrogation feel. As a crime reader, this definitely kept my attention.

I’m glad I was able to meet your expectations as an avid crime reader. 🫣

I really enjoyed this. The pacing was tight, and the dialogue kept me hooked all the way through. I liked how the tension slowly shifted and how the blame wasn’t obvious until the end. The use of short lines worked well for the chat format and made the story feel intense and real. It leaves you thinking, which is exactly what a good crime story should do.
