The Last Signal — Part II: The Awakening
Title: The Last Signal — Part II: The Awakening Kai didn’t
sleep. The crater still smoked under the pale morning
light. What used to be a mountain was now a scar on the
earth. No birds. No wind. Just silence.
Too much silence. His radio hissed again.
"Kai… we’re picking up another signal,"
the voice said, sharper this time.
"It’s stronger. And… it’s moving."
Kai froze.
"Moving? That’s not possible."
Before the voice could respond, the ground beneath him
trembled. A low pulse spread through the air—boom… boom…
boom—like a heartbeat. Then he saw it.

"You made it out,"
Arlen said, breathing hard.
"We thought—"
"Mira is alive,"
Kai cut him off. Arlen’s face went pale.
"That’s not Mira anymore."
⸻ Inside the broken control room, screens flickered
weakly. Arlen pulled up a map. Red markers blinked across
it.
"They’re appearing everywhere,"
he said.
"Signals. Same frequency."
Kai leaned closer.
"How many?"
Arlen hesitated.
"Too many."
⸻ Suddenly, every screen went black.
Then—blue. A figure appeared. Mira. But different.
Her eyes glowed brighter now. Her voice echoed unnaturally,
like it wasn’t just hers.
"You opened the first gate,"
she said calmly.
"Thank you."
Kai stepped forward.
"What are you?"
A small pause. Then:
