Someone Is Inside
You’re home alone when your friend texts from outside: “Why is your bedroom light on?”
You’re home alone tonight. At least, you’re supposed to be.
11:47 PM. A floorboard creaks upstairs.
Your phone buzzes.
hey wierdo, I am outside.
looks like you have left your lights on
wait what?
I didn’t turn it on.
are you serious rn
D. your bedroom. light is ON.
Upstairs, the floorboard creaks again. Closer to the stairs this time.
i pull out a AK 47 and shoot the door many times ""
WHAT WAS THAT
D i heard that from outside are you okay??
The shots tore through the front door. Splinters everywhere.
The house is dead silent now — whatever was upstairs has stopped moving.
ok. ok. whatever that was, it worked, because
D someone just moved past your bedroom window.
inside. INSIDE your room.
you need to get out of there RIGHT NOW
do NOT go check it. don't go up.
The silence upstairs stretches out, thick and listening. The stairs sit dark at the end of the hall.
D. i can see your front door from here. it's wrecked.
please tell me you're not thinking about going up there.
then don’t go upstairs.
For a second, the whole house is silent.
The bedroom light switches off.
For a moment, nothing happens.
Then you hear it.
Creak.
One step.
Another.
The steps keep coming. Slow. Unhurried. Whoever it is knows exactly where the stairs are in the dark.
D i can hear footsteps from your porch
please tell me you're moving
The steps stop. Right at the bottom of the stairs.
Somewhere in the dark hallway, close to you, something shifts its weight.
i'm calling the cops. stay quiet. don't do anything crazy
i kick the door open and aim my AK 47 st the intruder "STAY THE FUCK DOWN NOW!"
Your voice tears through the house. The dark hallway swallows it whole.
The figure at the bottom of the stairs doesn't flinch. Doesn't drop.
Just stands there in the black, a shape barely darker than the dark.
Then, so softly you almost miss it — a breath of a laugh.
You're loud for someone who can't see.
D?? i just heard you scream something
cops are 5 min out just HOLD ON
The figure takes one slow step back into the black. Then nothing. No steps. No breathing. Total silence.
Your phone buzzes in your hand. Not Dion. A number you've never seen.
"don't turn around."
The screen glows in your hand. Three dots appear under the message.
Behind you, wherever you are, the house has never been this quiet.
D the light in your room just went off
He’s coming downstairs.
and here we're
To be continued...

Wait, so Dion can see the intruder from outside but the mystery number knows what's happening inside too?? Is the second texter the one who was upstairs the whole time?
The Intruder
You're asking good questions, Sara. Wrong ones, but good. Keep your eyes on the window — that's where the answers were. The phone... the phone was always closer than you think.
