The White Laundry Basket
A 22-year-old pregnant woman disappears when her boyfriend comes home late one night in Alton, Illinois. When her mother arrives at her apartment the next day, a dark investigation begins, uncovering a tragedy rooted in domestic violence and betrayal.
The screaming sounded like the opening of Criminal Minds. Someone tied up. Trying to escape.
Then it got really loud. Really intense.
Alton, Illinois. Just after midnight on June 9th.
A man on CCTV carries a white laundry basket down a quiet street.
He disappears behind a smoke shop.
No one knew what was inside.
I took him to the dumpster.
There were clothes everywhere. Laundry baskets. Shoes.
They had blood on them.
They looked like female clothes. And male too.
Around 1 p.m. on June 9th, a mother arrives.
Heidi Noel hasn't heard from her daughter in over 15 hours.
Lisa is 22. Eight months pregnant.
Something feels off.
Heidi lets herself in.
Two minutes later, neighbors open their doors.
Heidi steps back outside, shaking.
Then she makes a chilling 911 call.
My daughter's been killed. My daughter's head's been chopped off.
Lisa Dodd was born in Alton on August 14th, 1999.
She loved animals and organized fundraisers for local shelters.
She graduated high school in 2017 and worked at Dairy Queen.
She was saving up to study medicine like her mom.
But in June 2022, Lisa was eight months pregnant.
The baby would be a girl. They called her Baby Bean.
Lisa was in an on and off relationship with DeAndre Holloway.
He was 21. She was 22.
DeAndre had substance issues and a difficult home life.
He was homeless once. Living in a tent by the lake with Lisa.
He hit her. Broke her nose. Gave her black eyes.
But Lisa kept going back.
She had so many black eyes when she'd come in.
At first she said her dog jumped up and hit her.
Eventually she admitted DeAndre punched her.
I wanted to call the police. She did not want that.
In July 2021, Lisa landed in the hospital.
DeAndre had broken her nose and given her two black eyes.
In September, she texted her boss in desperation.
My boyfriend beat me again. I had to go to my mom's.
But she went back to him anyway.
By June 2022, things were falling apart.
On June 5th, DeAndre texted a friend about his mental state.
My cup is filled up and now it's got to spill over.
I've always had to be the man even as a kid.
He sounded like he was breaking.
On Tuesday, June 7th, DeAndre went missing.
Lisa came home from work to an empty apartment.
He hadn't said when or if he'd be back.
You think he'd just leave like this?
If this is how it's meant to happen, at least it was nonviolent.
