My divorce lawyer texted me to meet him at his office. Then stabbed me 11 times on the sidewalk
She was one day away from finalizing her divorce. Her lawyer lured her downtown, then went dark. For 12 years nobody knew who killed her. Until they checked the WiFi logs.
Sunday afternoon. Cleveland, Ohio. Cold. Windy. Classic late March.
Alisa Sherman is a nurse. Mother of four. Tomorrow is the most important day of her life.
Her divorce is finally getting finalized. It's been long. Bitter. Expensive. But it's almost over.
Around 3:45 her divorce lawyer Gregory Moore texts her.
"Meet me at the office at 4:30. We need to talk."
"On my way"
"Take your time. Closer to 5:00."
She leaves anyway. Drives to his downtown Cleveland office.
When she gets there, the building is locked.
"Will you be here soon? Standing outside.
If not I'll go back to my car.
"Been here. But something is off."
Over the next five minutes she keeps texting.
Tells him the door is locked.
She can't get in. It's freezing.
She's looking down at her phone when a man comes up behind her.
He chases her down the block.
Stabs her 11 times.
Broad daylight. Busy sidewalk. Then he runs.
Security cameras catch him but he's drowning in a hoodie.
Face hidden. Identity gone.
Alisa Sherman dies on that sidewalk.
One day before her divorce was finalized.
Police think it's a stranger attack. Maybe a robbery gone wrong.
Her soon to be ex husband Dr. Sanford Sherman is never even a person of interest.
No suspect. No arrest. No answers.
The case goes cold.
For 12 years, nobody is charged.
Her four kids grow up without their mother.
Then the case breaks wide open.
And the person they put in handcuffs is not who anyone expected.
